Triumph of Modesty and Merit: Hijab-Wearing Principal Leads SPED International School, Oyo, to Record-Breaking Academic Success

InsideOut Media Hub reports that in a refreshing display of tolerance, excellence, and visionary leadership, SPED International Secondary School, Oyo, has become a model for educational progress under the stewardship of Dr. Suliyat Ajoke Ogungboyega (Alhaja JIM-SALAAM); the school’s first hijab-wearing principal.

Once a topic of debate, the introduction of the hijab at the institution has instead blossomed into a story of inclusion and academic distinction. Dr. Ogungboyega’s calm yet firm leadership has turned what many feared would be a source of division into a symbol of unity and success.

The 2025 WAEC results stand as proof: out of 28 subjects, 16 recorded over 90% excellence, with five achieving a perfect 100%. The BECE results were equally impressive, with 10 out of 12 subjects earning 100% and the rest hitting 99%.

Beyond the numbers, the school’s atmosphere of peace and respect has inspired students to embrace confidence and discipline. For many girls, including Balogun Maryam, this term’s “A Day Principal Prize” winner, the hijab has become a badge of dignity and purpose rather than restriction.

Under Dr. Ogungboyega’s watch, SPED International has demonstrated that modesty does not hinder intellect; it enhances it. Her inclusive vision continues to bridge divides and prove that faith and education can coexist harmoniously.

As the institution’s success echoes beyond Oyo, education stakeholders are calling her leadership a “model for the modern Nigerian school”,one where tolerance, discipline, and excellence walk proudly hand in hand.
